I've begun making a new item, fused glass soap dishes. So far, they've been pretty popular at craft shows, and I just love making them! I love the idea of turning useful objects into decorative pieces.

I've begun working with a local artist, Karen Mahoney, to turn my fused and dichroic glass pieces into finished necklaces, bracelets and earrings. We both love the results of our combined efforts and can hardly keep them stocked at our craft shows. Here is one example of her work.

New Fused Glass Wall Art

I recently bought a larger kiln in order to fill a request for 300 coasters in short order. Now that I've finished with that custom order, I'm free to experiment with my new kiln. I've begun a series of 12" diameter decorative dichroic wall glass pieces and 12" diameter deep bowls. This is the first edition, which is currently sitting at 1100 degrees in the kiln, becoming a bowl.

Wedding Favor Success!

I shipped my custom coaster order out to Boston two weeks ago and they made their debut on the wedding reception tables last weekend! The bride and groom-to-be tied sheer ribbons around each coaster and Zuka's Hilltop Barn did a beautiful job arranging the table settings. Click the slideshow to see the full album.

Wedding Favor Coasters Finished!

I finished all 144 wedding favor coasters! They look beautiful, with my logo stamped onthe back in permanent glass paint. I'm currently photographing them so that I can add them to my portfolio. In the meantime, I'm back to making various jewelry and decorative plates and bowls.

New Glass Earrings Posted!

It's been hard to keep the glass earrings in stock, but I have another pair of fused glass earrings for sale now! I made them by sprinkling blue glass powder on recycled window glass pieces. After rounding them in the kiln at about 1300 ˚F, I drilled holes in them using a diamond-tipped bit, and slid them onto the earring posts (not sterling silver, sorry... my next round will use the real thing).

Pultneyville Homecoming Days

Come visit me at the Pultneyville Homecoming Days Show next Saturday (7/19)!

I'll be setting up a booth in a grassy area on the shore of Lake Ontario. This should be a fun event! There will be a parade, historical tours, crafts, antiques etc.

The website (http://www.pultneyvillehistoricalsociety.org/pages/homecoming.htm) says:

"Each year, the Pultneyville Historical Society hosts an annual Homecoming festival. Always occurring on the 3rd Saturday and Sunday in July, Homecoming is two days of fun and celebration. It is a time to visit old and new friends and to explore the rich history of the Hamlet of Pultneyville.

Homecoming began in August 1957 to mark the 150th anniversary of the establishment of a post office in this lake hamlet, located in the Town of Williamson. The first Homecoming was a three-day event, starting with the appropriately attired Charles Easton delivering mail from Williamson to Pultneyville via Pony Express. There was a pageant in B. Forman Park on the shore of Lake Ontario with a cast of over 50 persons replaying the beginning of Pultneyville, a large parade, a chicken barbeque, and a square dance as well as other activities. The celebration culminated with a prayer service followed by a band concert.

Homecoming brings many people to Pultneyville to enjoy various activities and learn about the interesting history surrounding this once bustling port. Exhibits in the Historical Society reveal pictorial history of the Town of Williamson, the secrets of the St. Peter ship sunk in 1898 resting off Fairbanks point as well as information about Captain Throop and his important life in the hamlet. When you take the walking tour of Pultneyville you will learn about many historic homes and buildings including Gates Hall, the second oldest little theater in the United States, and where Pig Lane is located.

Keeping with tradition, there are many other activities to enjoy. Visit the Pultneyville Historical Society at 4130 Mill Street for historic exhibits, antique car exhibits and the gift shop. Among other activities are an Antique Show, Arts and Crafts, Band Concert, a Play in Gates Hall, a Chicken Barbeque, Raffle, Community Auction and Community Worship Service. Individuals are welcome to visit the Pultneyville Mariner's and Yacht Clubs. Many enjoy the walking tour of Pultneyville sponsored by the Historic Society. Food and nourishment abound at various locations around Centennial Park in the heart of the hamlet."

Creative Wedding Favors!

I'm working on a new project, now, wedding favors for a wedding. The engaged couple plans to put a coaster at each place setting during their wedding dinner, which should complement the local flour centerpieces wonderfully. Each coaster is unique and guests will hopefully have fun trading them.

The coasters are turning out beautifully! I've been using a variety of different colors, dichroic glass, confetti glass, swirls, etc. The engaged couple gets full credit for thinking of this unique wedding favor idea. It is a fantastic idea, and I'm sure that guests will use and cherish their coasters for years.

Intro to Sunrise Glass Art

Sunrise Glass produces decorative and functional hand-made glass art. We create unique pendants, coaster sets, plates and bowls by kiln-fusing a variety of glass types. All the component pieces are hand cut and pieced together, then fired in a kiln where they bond and become a unified whole. Many pieces require multiple fusings or work with diamond-tipped tools to achieve the desired shape. Each piece spends between 10 and 36 hours in a hot kiln and takes up to a week to finish.
